A tiger cub died from an infection in Kanha Tiger Reserve on Wednesday, bringing the tiger death toll in the state up to eleven this year. Nine of these dead tigers were from the Pench Tiger Reserve alone.

The cub was one of two shifted to Kanha Tiger Reserve recently after their mother died in the Pench Tiger Reserve due to suspected poisoning, say wildlife officials.

Field director Kanha Tiger Reserve JS Chauhan told HT over phone that the cub developed septicemia as it had received injuries on its hind limb. "The tiger cub had received injuries in Pench while it was reported missing. After both the male cubs were brought to Kanha, the injured cub's condition deteriorated and it finally succumbed to the injuries. We tried our best to save it," Chauhan said.

The cubs'mother was famously known as 'Naalle Wali Baghin' and she died on March 28.

When the cubs were found by forest officials, they were immediately sent to Kanha Tiger Reserve after a thorough health check-up.

According to officials, both the cubs were sent to Kanha so that they could be kept in a wide enclosure where they could be encouraged to grow close to nature
