Pilibhit: In yet another instance of man-animal conflict, a 50-year-old man of Nabadia Sukhdaspur village, under Madhotanda police station, was mauled by a tiger when he was working in his sugarcane field located on the periphery of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve's Mahof forest range in the morning on Wednesday . The victim, Hari Ram, was rushed to district government hospital in Pilibhit, where his condition is serious. Doctors said Hari Ram sustained serious injuries on his back, arms and face.
The victim's family members said the forest staff did not provide them with any help. Ram was taken to Pilibhit arounf 3pm after 108 ambulance reached the spot after 2pm , they claimed.
The in-charge of the district hospital, Dr Anupam Sharma, said that since there was a delay of several hours between the time of attack, around 9am , and admission in hospital, there are chances that the wounds have become septic.
Range officer, social forestry at Puranpur, Haseen Ahmad told TOI that the attack happened inside the forest area and not in the sugarcane field as claimed by the family of the victim. When asked whether Hari Ram would be considered as an intruder in PTR or would be deprived of the compensation that is awarded by the forest department if tiger attack takes place outside the forest area, Ahmad said the matter would be decided by the divisional forest officer of PTR.
