Erode(TN), Jun 18(PTI) A tiger was sighted in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in this district, forest officials said today. Selvan, a farmer spotted the tiger, which mauled his sheep to death in Jeerahalli forest settlement area in Thalawady forest range yesterday. Chennai: National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) on Saturday cautioned all tiger states in India and their chief wildlife wardens to take steps and prevent circulation of tiger photos in Facebook and WhatsApp groups with their location. The tiger population in Assam has increased noticeably from last census but India’s smallest and relatively lesser-known Orang National Park could displace heavyweight Kaziranga National Park as the reserve with the highest tiger density. GUWAHATI: Latest estimates show that there are 104 tigers in the Kaziranga National Park and Burachapori, about 250 km from here. In 2014, there were 83 tigers in Kaziranga. While 95 adult tigers were found in Kaziranga National Park, two adult tigers and their cubs were found in Burachapori.
